I’ve been following the emergence of new planning policy arising from the ‘Living with Beauty’ report for some while, sharing my reactions (both delight and dismay) often enough in this column. Meanwhile, in practice at HTA Design, we are considering how best to respond to the demands on local planning authorities to encourage beauty, refuse ugliness and to integrate the ‘provably popular’ design codes now required to be embedded in local plans.
