Cross-party report calls for review of green belt land and warns that brownfield is not a panacea
A cross-party group of MPs has published a report proposing a review of green belt land to fix the shortage of homes in the UK and the need to tackle the NIMBY/YIMBY divide.
The 30-page report, by the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Housing Market and Housing Delivery, recommends that the Government carry out a review of the purpose of green belt land, stating that “reclassifying even a fraction of it” for development would positively impact housing delivery.
The APPG’s report “Hacking Housing: Nine Supply Side Hacks to Fix Our Housing System” reemphasises the prioritisation of brownfield land as a central element of planning policy that should be protected.
