Bristol City Council is determined to tackle the unmet need for affordable housing in the City. With 19,000 households on its housing waiting list and 1,000 households living in temporary accommodation, Bristol City Council is currently undertaking its biggest affordable housing delivery drive for decades. We are delivering the Affordable Housing Delivery Plan 2023-27 which is targeted to deliver over 3000 new council homes over the next 5 years. This is additional to the affordable Homes being delivery through our Registered Provider Partners and own housing development company, Goram Homes.
What will I be doing?
You will undertake a variety of responsibilities to support the delivery of high-quality new housing developments on Council-owned land in Bristol, through the Council’s new build affordable housing programme. This will include working closely with a Housing Development Manager or Construction Manager to support them on all aspects of development from inception, feasibility, design, construction and acquisitions to handover of the homes to the client.
You will be part of a small team delivering new build projects via direct delivery of sites from feasibility studies, options appraisals, planning applications through to appointment of construction contractors, delivery on-site and handover, or through development agreements with Bristol City Council’s Housing Company, Goram Homes, or through the acquisition of homes form the market.
The role will include being involved in securing detailed planning consents on multiple, complex residential developments and leading on and delivering financial appraisals working closely with our funders to ensure feasible and viable development proposals.
What do I need to have?
If you have experience of housing development and are passionate about delivering high-quality new homes we welcome an application from you. You will have demonstrable development experience and a track record of making a significant contribution to successful housing development projects. Ideally, you will have a relevant professional qualification.
It would be beneficial for you to have relevant experience of working within a Local Authority, housing association, or other housing development role within a regulated environment.
Have a working knowledge of development and project viability experience, you will bring experience of working with a range of stakeholders to help deliver major capital projects.
You will also understand the policy context within which Local Authorities, housing associations and other developers operate, and how these policies impact the delivery of housing.
