From consumer regulation and repairs, to recruiting and retaining staff and making the case to politicians for a long-term plan for housing, attendees at this week’s CIH Brighton event were not short of discussion topics. Olivia Barber reports from the seaside.
Following the bank holiday weekend and a day of Aslef train strikes on Tuesday, over 600 housing professionals convened in Brighton on Wednesday and Thursday to discuss the most pressing topics in the industry at the Chartered Institute of Housing’s conference.
Welcomed by scenic sea views and sunny weather, delegates arrived at the conference venue - the iconic seafront hotel, the Hilton Brighton Metropole.
As the country gears up for a general election, it’s no surprise that, at a macro-level, the focus on what the next government will do on housing was central to this conference. In particular, the sector ramped up its calls for the next government to commit to a long-term plan for housing.
