The Vauxhall and Camberwell MP has been appointed chair of a cross-party group which seeks to hold the new government to account on its housing policies. Here, she explains how affordable homes and local government finance are her central priorities
Florence Eshalomi knows the sharp end of the housing crisis. Growing up on an estate in South London, she would listen to her Mum vent her frustration about Lambeth Council’s housing department.
“All I knew was that when they got things wrong it made life really difficult for us,” she recalls. “I think I had a really big ambition that when I was old I was gonna go to Lambeth Council and fix all the problems. Many years later, I’m still trying to fix all the problems”.
