Several firms have got into difficulty recently with activity linked to modern methods of construction, Carl Brown finds out more about the state of the modular market
Arguably no area of construction activity has had as much growth and as much buzz about it in the last few years as modern methods of construction (MMC). Since 2016, more than £1bn of private finance has been invested in research and development and new modular housing factories, according to Make UK Modular. The trade body says delivery of volumetric modular housing alone has increased 478% in this time with more than 5,000 units set to be delivered this year, with enough capacity created to be delivering more than 20,000 per year by 2025.
