The measure is part of the government’s long-term plan for housing, aimed at implementing stricter regulations for short-term lets
The government has proposed the creation of a mandatory national register of short-term lets to give local authorities information about short-term rentals in their area.
Gove says that the government’s measures on short-term lets will “strike the right balance between protecting the visitor economy and ensuring local people get the homes they need”.
DLUHC said that the register “will help councils understand the extent of short-term lets in their area, the effects on their communities, and underpin compliance with key health and safety regulations”.
