Flats, which account for seven in 10 existing leasehold homes, won’t be included in leasehold ban, according to reports.
The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) will introduce a new bill that requires new houses in England and Wales to be sold as freeholds, the housing minister Rachel Maclean has confirmed.
Under the proposals, new flats will be exempt, according to a report in The Times which was shared on social media by Maclean.
Flats account for around seven in 10 leashold homes, according to government statistics.
