Select committee hears evidence on the construction industry’s capacity to deliver 1.5m homes

The boss of the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) has told a cross-party group of MPs that a more efficient system of skilling up workers is needed if housing targets are to be met.

Speaking in front of the housing, communities and local government committee, Tim Balcon said an additional 161,000 people would need to enter the construction workforce in order for the government to meet its housing targets. The Labour government has pledged to build 1.5m homes by 2029.
