Chris Brown argues we need government to help ensure an orderly transition to energy efficient homes.
Retrofitting a home to make it less damaging to the climate, by improving insulation, and changing the dirty gas boiler to a clean, and three times more efficient, heat pump, won’t repay the capital cost from energy bill savings alone.
This is changing fast. Government plans to reduce the price of electricity relative to gas, grants for heat pumps, and the work companies like Octopus Energy are doing to bring down heat pump installation costs are all moving the dial.
The biggest change though, may be just around the corner.
