The Employment Rights Bill (ERB) currently going through parliament will introduce a new requirement for employers to prevent third party harassment of employees in the course of their employment.
The level of violent or abusive incidents towards workers in the sector certainly can often go unreported. Where there is an increase in violent or abusive incidents workers fear for their safety, leading to retention and recruitment issues for the sector as well as high levels of stress related absence. Harassment can take many forms from a one-off incident to an ongoing course of inappropriate communication that can lead to employees feeling demoralised and stressed.
