When the Magi saw an unusual star rise in the sky that first Christmas they followed it not because they wanted to get to the star, but because they knew it would lead them to a king. Similarly, the government hasn’t set out to build 300,000 homes for its own sake, but for where it could lead – to a promised land where everyone can afford a safe, quality home of their own and the housing supply crisis no longer acts as a break on economic growth.
