The key issue will be how growth zones will be decided, says Clive Docwra
At first glance, this week’s Queen’s Speech provided plenty to cheer for housebuilding.
Simplification of planning rules to help the housebuilders continue to recover from the impact of covid, a focus on training to help workers re-skill – which could help construction emerge from its skills crisis – and pledges on infrastructure being three welcome commitments.
But we’ll have to wait and see how radical these plans will be. As is the case with every Queen’s Speech, there was plenty of rhetoric and reheating: the government again repeating previous announcements, such as a £4.8bn fund for infrastructure projects, eight new freeports and 40 new hospitals.
