The planning system must change to facilitate building housing-with-care for a growing older population says Legal & General’s Phil Bayliss

It is widely recognised that the UK is underprepared to meet the needs of its ageing population. Currently, there are more than 12 million over- 65s in the UK, and this figure is expected to increase by 50 per cent over the next 20 years. Looking at the societal challenges we face, there has been a fundamental failure to address the specific housing, health and care needs of this demographic.
