As a new section of the London underground network opens, Graeme Craig of Transport for London explains how transport infrastructure can be the key to unlocking development
When people think about Transport for London (TfL), they normally picture the Tube and bus networks. Housing is never the first thing that springs to mind. As TfL’s director of commercial development, I can confidently say that transport and housing are intrinsically linked – they are two sides of the same coin.
Transport is often the key to enabling development, while thoughtfully designed schemes not only help tackle the capital’s housing crisis, they also improve and encourage sustainable travel. Within TfL, we are undertaking a major development programme that will see thousands of new homes – with high levels of affordable housing - built on our land across the capital in a way that meets the needs of Londoners and enhances the transport network.
