New towns require patient investment

For long-term business models to work for new community developments a number of things need to change, says Paula Hirst

On 2 March 2021 following a year-long project of research and industry engagement, Prior + Partners and the Urban Land Institute UK published 21st Century New Communities – a report identifying key attributes which define successful new communities, and a set of principles and foundations for success.

Together these aim to establish a new era for large-scale housing development, to unite and inspire all those involved in the delivery of new towns, garden villages and urban extensions.
