Support from developers for the levies will surely splinter when detail emerges
Housing secretary Roberrt Jenrick appears to have pleased few people with his announcement of £3.5bn of “unprecedented” support for those affected by the cladding crisis. While £3.5bn is undoubtedly a lot of money, there are simply too many people whose problems remain unfixed by this – people in medium-rise flats, or with problems other than cladding, who have lived through a deepening nightmare since the Grenfell tragedy, and whose nightmare has now no prospect of ending any time soon.
It is little wonder that Conservative MP Stephen McPartland said he watched the announcement with his head in his hands, wondering how Jenrick could have got it so wrong.
