Michael Gove has reaffirmed the government’s 300,000 homes-a-year target but, given the economic situation, is engaging in active expectation management.
There is a need to deliver more social housing and achieve net zero. Pursuing both provides a platform for economic growth and social value, but when public finances are so tight, other levers offering value (other than cash) should be explored to advance and preserve sustainable affordable housing.
These areas of policy or law offer a low-cost starting point to facilitate new and preserve existing supply.
