Starmer’s plan can only be achieved with HAs’ scale and expertise, writes Mel Barrett in his first article for Housing Today
The early signs are that the government grasps the full extent of the UK’s housing crisis. The restoration of mandatory housing targets, bolstering of planning resources to recruit more planning officers, and the consultation on the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) are welcome yet exactly where housing associations will sit within the government’s plans is still to be determined.
Labour’s ambitions to build 1.5m new homes over the next five years go much further than what we have seen from any government in recent years.
