Shared ownership has been notably absent from Labour’s policy programme, this should change, writes Peter Hawley
In the recent general election campaign, one key point of difference in the two main parties’ housing policies was that the Conservatives pledged to introduce a new Help to Buy scheme, whereas Labour proposed alternative housing policies, largely focused on social rent.
The new Labour government is already putting into place new housing initiatives including increased local authority funding for housing (to be announced in the next budget), greater powers and flexibilities for the affordable homes programme and changes to Right to Buy.
