The planning reforms announced in last month’s mini-budget must factor in provision of affordable housing, argues Fiona Fletcher-Smith
Britain is facing a cost-of-living crisis on multiple fronts, and this year will be the toughest for more than half a century. The ongoing housing crisis is often overlooked when discussing the rising cost of living, yet, for most people, housing is their highest living cost.
The government’s commitments to expanding home ownership, decarbonising homes, and simplifying the planning system were welcome, but more needs to be done to ensure affordable homes and services for those that need them.
