Given Tory unease over proposed white paper reforms, plans could be watered down or even dropped
The open letter sent yesterday by over 2,000 councillors calling on housing secretary Robert Jenrick to ditch controversial reforms of the planning system has put the proposals back in the spotlight.
The letter, which includes influential countryside charity the CPRE and 350 Tory councillors among its signatories, shows that unease over the reforms is not necessarily going to melt away, despite signals that the government will backtrack over the most controversial element – the infamous “mutant” housing algorithm.
