If housebuilding is to successfully embrace artificial intelligence, then construction contracts need to adapt, argues Ashley Pappin
The national conversation is awash with AI. Its capabilities are rapidly advancing, and for a sector, such as housing, facing a perfect storm of pressures – high inflation, rising funding costs, and stricter environmental requirements – it is understandable that many are looking to harness every productivity and efficiency advantage throughout housing supply chains.
Three key advantages of AI are already emerging for housebuilding, within planning, sustainability, and safety.
AI is developing as a tool to spot risks and opportunities and to improve efficiency. Many envision AI to soon be creating construction programmes and leading management of delivery to maximise efficiency and minimise unexpected delays. This is a scenario that the sector is already reacting to.
