Few of us will miss complicated OJEU rules but cutting out waste in tendering is still a challenge, says Ben Derbyshire
It’s an ill wind that blows nobody any good, and like it or not, Brexit is no exception. OJEU procedures have been a persistent bugbear of life for many public sector procurement departments - and dare I suggest tenderers too? Now that we have left the EU, we are all asking ourselves whether procurement might become less wasteful and expensive, more effective in creating the right kind of purchaser/supplier relationships, as well as fairer and more accessible to small and medium enterprises. The latter is actually a stated objective of the OJEU procedures, though you might not think so on the basis of the labyrinthine processes derived from it.
