The institute’s new report urges the Northern Ireland Assembly to prioritise social housing development and lobby for a dedicated housing decarbonisation fund for Northern Ireland
The Chartered Institute of Housing in Northern Ireland has urged Stormont to secure more capital funding for housing to counteract recent budget cuts and boost the social housing development programme in a new report published today.
The report notes that only 5,418 new social homes were built in Northern Ireland in the past year, the lowest number in a decade.
In the current financial year, the institute highlights that only 400 new social homes are planned for 2024/25, due to a 38% reduction in capital funding for housing.
