Ci Global has announced the launch of the Ci One and Ci Max safety smart sockets, which are reportedly certified for use in the UK, UAE, and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. According to the company, these sockets are designed to address electrical faults that can lead to fires.

The sockets, developed by Ci Global’s founder Anthony Parfitt, are said to incorporate thermal monitoring technology. The manufacturer claims this technology can detect overheating electrical faults in real time, automatically cutting power before a fire starts. Parfitt asserts that this technology could have prevented the Grenfell Tower fire.

Parfitt argues that current building safety reforms are reactive and do not address the root cause of electrical fires. He suggests that his smart sockets offer a preventative solution.

The company states that the smart sockets can detect hazards such as water leaks, mould, gas leaks and earthquakes. Additionally, the product is said to automatically power down standby devices to reduce energy consumption.

A proof-of-concept trial in a London high-rise is reported to have demonstrated the socket’s capabilities, attracting interest from property developers and insurance companies. Ci Global has also stated its intention to advocate for legislative change and allocate a portion of future profits towards installing these sockets in social housing.
