A clear unequivocal direction from government that all LPAs – including Green Belt LPAs - must have an up to date local plan and updated every five years. If they don’t then there should be a very strong presumption in favour of new housing in the decision-making process.
Without an increased supply of planning permissions there is very little it can do that it isn’t already. If there is increased supply it could look to providing more diversity of tenure types such as PRS which would enable faster delivery.
Buying a new home means the maintenance and running costs are so much lower and I suspect the cost of living crisis and the environmental cause might actually make the case for new housing more powerfully than all the efforts we do.
