We would welcome fundamental changes to planning policy enabling it to become more dynamic, consistent and in essence create greater certainty around the planning system for all stakeholders.
As homebuilders, the sector has demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to enter new areas including affordable housing and PRS. However, if our planning system were more agile it could support further changes to meet the needs of our growing towns and cities, which in turn would allow us to deliver more homes.
While we appreciate the current government is trying to remove bureaucracy and red tape as part of its levelling up agenda, we do not currently have a planning system that is fit for purpose. With unnecessary delays in local authorities adopting their local plans and thereafter delivering sufficient sites with viable planning consents to meet demand. This is an urgent priority and fundamental to increasing the supply of new homes across the country.
